Before anything is stored, we strip owner name, phone number, address, and microchip number from receipt text extracted automatically. We never ask you to type these into a receipt entry either.
When you upload a receipt, you’re told at that point that your de-identified visit will be added to our community price database (used to show other owners price ranges) unless you opt out. Sharing is on by default, and you can opt out at the point of upload.

This is only ever shown as aggregated statistics — price ranges, medians, and sample sizes — never as a browsable list of individual receipts.
Always kept private, never shared: your pet’s breed and exact visit date (both live only on your own timeline — breed and exact date together with clinic and price can be specific enough to identify a particular pet/owner in a small community), microchip number, any photo you choose to retain of a receipt, and any medical document (test/lab/imaging report) you upload — those never touch the price database at all.
Receipt data powers price transparency — letting owners see a realistic range for a procedure before a vet visit, based on what other owners have actually paid. A saved pet profile and timeline is a byproduct of uploading, not something you’re required to set up: it exists so returning users don’t have to re-enter their pet’s details every time, and so you have a personal record of your pet’s visits in one place.
If you’re logged in, you can delete an individual receipt from your pet’s timeline at any time — this removes it from your records and excludes it from future price calculations. You can also delete an entire pet profile, which removes its associated receipts, documents, and photos.
This is only available to logged-in users: an anonymous upload has no identifier we can use to verify that a later deletion request actually comes from the person who submitted it. If you uploaded a receipt anonymously, the sharing choice you made at the time of upload is final — this is a deliberate tradeoff for keeping anonymous upload frictionless, not a missing feature.
